Can The Lord Trust Us

Often He is unable to trust us but occasionally He trusts us with something immeasurably precious, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And He trusts us with His Word. Recently, He led me to the sick-room of a woman who was about 36 hours away from death. I did not know how sick she was but I knew it was pretty bad. As I spoke to her she didn*t seem capable of understanding much of anything. It took great effort on her part just to say the words yes or no, much less put together a coherent sentence. I gave up on her. I returned to my home. I was suddenly overwhelmed with the idea that I should not have given up on her. I went back to her sick-room and shared a few verses from the Bible with her, not knowing if she understood them or not. I have been told that the last thing to go for people near death is their hearing. I told her that God knows our thoughts from afar and that we can pray in our minds and He will understand.

Psalms 139:2: Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

I told her that I would pray a prayer to receive Jesus and she could pray it in her mind. I did that but did not know if she understood and received Jesus or not. The next day I visited her again. Again she had great difficulty speaking. I asked her if she remembered inviting Jesus into her heart the day before. She struggled hard to get the word out: Yes. That night she went to be with the Lord.

I have had great joy as I realize how precious a thing the Lord has entrusted to me and to many other believers. I do not ever want to betray that trust. I want Him to overwhelm me whenever I need it. Paul wrote often that the Lord had trusted him with the gospel. Perhaps He will trust you with it too.

1 Timothy 1:11: According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

Titus 1:3: But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

1 Thessalonians 2:4: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

Galatians 2:7: But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

The Lord might trust you to pray for the souls of men, plant the seeds of the Word of God, water them, share the gospel with them or all of the above. Don*t let Him down.
